# 2: Toxic Positivity: When Too Much of a Good Thing Isn't So Good.

 
 

Toxic positivity can have damaging effects on our mental and emotional health, denying ourselves and others the acceptance of uncomfortable emotions.

To combat this, we should strive to listen and empathize with those we are speaking with, validate their negative emotions, and offer support without brushing them aside.

We should also learn to practice emotional agility by being mindful of our thoughts and emotions and learning to accept both positive and negative feelings.

To process our emotions in healthier and more productive ways, we should put a name to them, choose responses in line with our values and goals, practice self-compassion, surround ourselves with those who validate and support us, use healthy coping mechanisms, and challenge beliefs that perpetuate toxic positivity.
